Memory Runner (Icons)

Memorize 7 icons in order, then steer your crowd through the gate showing the next one. Right gate doubles your runners, wrong gate halves them — outnumber the enemy at the finish.

Gate #3 wants the third symbol you memorized — not any symbol you recognise. Hazards between the gates still cut the pack down, so steer around them.

How to Play

  1. 1Memorize the numbered icon sequence shown before the run starts
  2. 2Drag on the track or press the left and right arrow keys to steer your crowd
  3. 3At each gate pair, run through the icon that comes next in your sequence
  4. 4A correct gate doubles your crowd, a wrong one halves it
  5. 5Steer around the hazards between gate rows — they cut runners out of the pack
  6. 6Reach the finish with more runners than the enemy crowd to win

About This Game

Memory Runner (Icons) challenges visual working memory by asking you to hold an ordered run of symbols while a crowd of runners carries you toward gate after gate. On the harder settings the wrong side of a gate shows another icon from the same sequence, so only the position — not the symbol — tells you which way to steer.

The Science Behind It

Visual working memory tasks engage the visuospatial sketchpad, the component of working memory responsible for storing and manipulating visual information. Training this system can improve performance in tasks requiring visual recall and pattern recognition.

Difficulty Levels

Easy

Perfect for beginners and casual players. Relaxed pace with forgiving mechanics.

Medium

Balanced challenge for regular players. Requires attention and strategic thinking.

Hard

Intense challenge for experienced players. Demands peak cognitive performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Memory Runner (Icons) different from Numbers?

The track and the rules are identical, but the gates show icons instead of numbers, so the sequence has to be held in visual memory rather than rehearsed verbally.

What skills does the icon version train?

Visual working memory and pattern recognition, under the divided attention of steering a crowd and dodging hazards at the same time.

Why do both gates sometimes show icons I recognize?

On Medium and Hard the decoy is another icon from your own sequence, so recognizing a symbol is not enough — you have to remember its exact position in the order.
